Recruitment

It Matters

to you and them

How to pick your Agent?

When you are applying for graduate jobs, find a great agency that would help you land your dream job faster.

They are talking to hiring managers, they are in touch with the market leaders and the company Human Resource Managers. They go out to Networking events, and you will see their friendly faces hence those events are important, you get to meet these unique recruiters who think outside the box just like you to find people, the same way you do that to find jobs.

It is good to get some practise interview runs before you go to the actual client interview and if you find a good recruiter, they will give you all the tips and advice to improve yourself.

Ask them, do not wait for their call, be proactive and call them to seek some feedback on how you did during your interview.

Ask them, did I present myself well? What should I improve on?

So why is it important to find that agency with a good reputation?

They treat you like the same way that they would like to be treated, you will feel a great connection, they are friendly, easy-going, and you will feel this from your first call that they care.

They will genuinely guide you on how to improve on things.

They will answer your calls or reply to your emails. I meant emails – not job ads.

Job ads are different; email them to seek advice.

They have an excellent reputation in the market, check some reviews, check the way they are advertising the jobs – they will have excellent attention to detail.

That means they know the job well, to advertise a job well they have to know their clients well, without having a great relationship with the clients they would not get all the inside info to advertise.

That means they know how to build strong relationships, and they know those hiring managers well enough to recommend you for work experience or future employment.

Check out their Linked in profile – get to know their local staff – are they active on LinkedIn – message them, tell them you want a mentor, you want some guidance.

When you call them, ask them what their process is?

Pick an agency where they have a great process in place, these agencies will protect your data, your privacy is important to them, and they will make sure that you are looked after like their staff once you find employment.

They will advise on how to improve your resume and prepare you for the client interview well,  you will feel confident facing your client interviews.

Build a relationship with these agencies because they will remember you and they will try their best to find a job for you.

You will know when one agency contacting you, keeping in touch and you never hear from other agencies after the first call.

Stick with the Agency who is working harder for you, trust them and give them your word as well, please do not go behind them and say yes to another agency for the same job. A lot of people do that these days and do not be one of them.

Anyone who is looking for a new job, be reliable, if you have given your consent to an agency to represent you, don’t allow another agency to send your resume to the same job.

Many things happen when you say yes to a good recruiter. They don’t just shoot your resume to the client. They would market your skills, pay attention to detail, check the spellings on your resume. If it is missing dates, any gaps in your resume they would get these corrected before sending the resume and write a profile summary about you why they think you are suitable for the role.

They get your background checks done, your Visa, work rights are all checked before sending the resume, and if not eligible, they will let you know without wasting your time. They would represent you as one of the top candidates they have.
Some agencies would not even call you, but somehow your resume could end up in client’s hands.

In this situation, you can send an email to this Agency to withdraw your application from the job. Please do not give in.

"Stick with the Agency who is working harder for you"

Recruitment Agencies, what do they do?

Do the right thing by the Agency who spends quality time getting to know you and doing all the hard work to securing a job because they will make sure that they look after you not just for this job but during your whole career span.

Without recruiters, many companies would not even have staff working for them.

They receive hundreds and hundreds of applications every day, and most companies have over a hundred contractors working for them already, they attend to their daily queries as well. They have daily client business development meetings, Some days can be filled with just meetings, so if you do not get a call returned or reply to your email, do not be disheartened, call them, email them and be kind to them. They are only human, and they do not intentionally ignore anyone.

Some global recruitment agencies have strict Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in place hence recruiters have a workload that they cannot cope or sometimes these agencies are strictly looking at numbers rather than dealing with human beings. Feel sorry for these recruitment consultants because it is a very challenging role when you have a number in front of you that you must meet at the end of the day. Imagine if you must call 100 people a day and have 5 -10 interviews.

Hence it is so important to check from your first phone call or email how they treat you, that’s a good indication on how they are going to handle your application in the future. If it is less than two minutes, no connection made, let those recruiters go, unfortunately.

There are great agencies and excellent recruiters around. You have to find them, find the best Agency to represent you because they are going to be part of your story – this is your first job we are talking about.

You will know from the first call, whether they are going to help you or not.

Ask them this question,

“I am a graduate, would you be able to assist me in giving a practice interview, or would you be able to tell me whether I have a good resume? I am applying for a graduate job. I am looking for your expert advice?”

If the person on the other end of the phone, say something like this

Oh would love to, please send your resume through, we are here to help.”

Well, there’s your awesome human, who’s going to help you get your dream job, go send some flowers with your resume.
